Show Notes

Welcome to the Somerset Emotional Wellbeing (SEW) podcast!

In this episode, Digital Health Innovation, our hosts Dr. Peter Bagshaw and Dr. Andrew Tresidder are joined by Dr. Matthew Dolman from NHS Somerset to discuss how partners across the Somerset Integrated Care System are working together to implement and promote digital health innovations like the NHS App, what BRAVE AI is, and why using data and digital technology in healthcare can prevent people from needing to be admitted to hospital and help them to experience better health and quality of life.

The SEW podcast is a free weekly show hosted by Dr. Andrew Tresidder, Dr. Peter Bagshaw and Dr. Kate Staveley. In each episode, the doctors discuss a different topic related to mental and emotional wellbeing and often invite expert guests to join them in conversation. The show is aimed at the people of Somerset and beyond; the advice and guidance provided should apply to anybody who needs it, whenever they need it.

All episodes of SEW are now available to listen to free through Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Deezer, Google Podcasts, Amazon Podcasts, Somerset Emotional Wellbeing or wherever you get your podcasts!

Using Artificial Intelligence to monitor wellbeing: BRAVE AI - BRAVE AI is being used across four Primary Care Networks in Somerset. Using clever computer algorithms, it gives each patient registered at the practice a score for how complex their health needs are and uses this to highlight those who may be at risk of their wellbeing declining to the point of needing to go to hospital. This helps health professionals identify people at risk who may otherwise go under the radar, such as patients with borderline results or who rarely contact their GP.

BRAVE AI – Digital Marketplace – Brave AI is a Population Health Management (PHM) platform. Brave uses Machine Learning to integrate and rapidly analyse routinely-collected health and social care data to empower patients and clinical teams to create the most appropriate plan of action for delivery of proactive anticipatory care.

About the NHS App - The NHS App allows you to access a range of NHS services. You can download the NHS App on your phone or tablet. You can also access the same services in a web browser by logging in through the NHS website. You must be aged 13 or over to use the NHS App. You also need to be registered with a GP surgery in England or the Isle of Man. Find out more about who can use the NHS App.
